When golf architecture meets the photographer’s eye: a symphony of lines and light

Some might find it odd, but for me, architectural photography and golf share an invisible bond, a subtle harmony that reveals itself through the lens. The 2021 edition of the PGA Championship of Canada at the Parcours du Vieux Village in Bromont provided me with an ideal playground to explore these similarities.

The frame as a backdrop

Just as an architect carefully chooses the location of a building to highlight its lines, the golf photographer searches for the perfect angle to capture the essence of the course. The rolling fairways of Bromont, draped in vibrant greenery, become perspectives to explore, while the majestic century-old trees act as natural architectural elements, adding depth and symmetry to the image.

Light, conductor

Whether illuminating the facade of a skyscraper or caressing the contours of a perfectly manicured green, light is the key element. During this championship, I was able to play with the rays of the sun grazing the course at the end of the day, creating spectacular plays of light and shadow that sublimate every detail of the course.

Precision, a common art

In photography, as in golf, precision is essential. Every shot, every shot requires careful anticipation, rigorous analysis of conditions and precise movement. Whether it is to capture the perfect trajectory of a swing, , or to choose the ideal depth of field to highlight an architectural element of the route, every detail counts.

Emotion, at the heart of the experience

Beyond technique, it is emotion that brings a photograph to life, just as it fuels a golfer’s passion. The palpable tension before a decisive putt, , the joy of a perfectly executed shot, the serenity of a course bathed in light… It is these fleeting moments, these raw emotions that I strive to capture through my lens, to share them with those who know how to appreciate them.

So, as I walked through the Parcours du Vieux Village through my viewfinder, I realized that architectural photography and golf are much more than passions: they are universal languages, where the beauty of lines, the magic of light and the intensity of emotions come together to create a unique and unforgettable experience.
